Things that do not impress me:*
  • Who you know. Particularly rock stars and actors, especially of the b-list/indie variety. They will know anyone. I am sure your friends are very nice, but please stop acting like they make you different.
  • Your IQ score - yay you can do pattern recognition! Congratulations on having great pre-math skills.
  • If you're in Mensa. That test is notoriously easy - the want a certain membership, ones that are stupid enough to pay dues to prove how smart they are.
  • Your alma mater, with the exception of caltech, cooper, or several of the more exclusive conservatories - in other words, if you have to perform or produce something to get in, yeah, I'm a little impressed (bonus points for then dropping out), otherwise, not so much - we all know those admissions processes can be fairly arbitrary.
  • Your car ... some of the most successful people drive whatever clunker suits them - except for those of you that actually know cars and can work on them.
  • Your academic or career status. I understand it takes effort to work hard and/or know the angles, but it's not like it's magic.
  • People who think being bitchy/cocky/aggressively and ironically politically incorrect somehow substitutes for having a personality.

People who do impress me:
  • People who set personal goals and achieve them, just for the satisfaction of it - anything from adding another 10 pounds to your press or learning how to make a souffle that doesn't fall.
  • People who work in high-pressure, low-appreciation fields - single moms, public health nurses, inner city school teachers, social service agency receptionists, street ministry workers, soldiers who hate the wars they fight in.
  • Let's just give a special shout-out to those street ministry people.
  • People who manage to keep sunny dispositions even while they're dealing with depression and set-backs.

Prince - Kiss Lyrics

U don't have 2 be beautiful
2 turn me on
I just need your body baby
From dusk till dawn
U don't need experience
2 turn me out
U just leave it all up 2 me
I'm gonna show u what it's all about

U don't have 2 be rich
2 be my girl
U don't have 2 be cool
2 rule my world
Ain't no particular sign I'm more compatible with
I just want your extra time and your

Kiss

U got to not talk dirty, baby
If u wanna impress me
U can't be 2 flirty, mama
I know how 2 undress me (Yeah)
I want 2 be your fantasy
Maybe u could be mine
U just leave it all up to me
We could have a good time

U don't have 2 be rich
2 be my girl
U don't have 2 be cool
2 rule my world
Ain't no particular sign I'm more compatible with
I just want your extra time and your

Kiss

Yes
I think I wanna dance
Gotta, Gotta
Little girl Wendy's parade
Gotta, gotta, gotta

Women not girls rule my world
I said they rule my world
Act your age, mama (Not your shoe size)
Not your shoe size
Maybe we could do the twirl
U don't have 2 watch Dynasty
2 have an attitude
U just leave it all up 2 me
My love will be your food
Yeah

U don't have 2 be rich
2 be my girl
U don't have 2 be cool
2 rule my world
Ain't no particular sign I'm more compatible with
I just want your extra time and your

Kiss

*You might do/have any of these things and have me love you, in fact, I probably do love you! I've got some really accomplished friends. I just mean people who think these things define them and give them worth beyond who they are inside.
