What I Did on My Summer Vacation Pt. 7. "Water is Life"

Wednesday, July 10, 2002

It’s hot, and we need another drink. Watcha you think a sister’s gonna do?* No, we don’t go outside and smoke a blunt in tha car, we go to the Hetch Hetchy dam after breakfast (french toast, sausage patty, crenshaw melon) to see the source of drinking water for our fair city.

O'Shaughnessy Dam

All praise Hetch Hetchy for bringing mountain spring water to our taps. A beautiful valley, once considered on par with Yosemite Valley itself, has been sacrificed to make city living convenient and hydrated.

The Hetch as it was

It is so hot by the dam that we bring our sack lunches back "home" to the lake for lunch.

That night there is more bingo and organized sport playing. With swaz on the team, the guests beat the staff at beach volleyball. Later that night, the two of us have a very interesting walk in the dark, dark wood.

*Reference to the ghetto tech classic Another Drink by Disco D: "When it’s hot, and you need another drink/ whatcha think a brutha’s gonna do/ is go outside/ and smoke a blunt in tha car/and then come back/ and get some love in tha club." This song keeps going through my head, because it is so hot and I am so thirsty.
