Every situation, does, however, offer some opportunity for growth and progress.
However, the richness of that opportunity is pure chance. I also can't stand "we make our own reality" because I don't really think that starving children in Africa have quite the abundant potential that I have to control my life.
Nor am I fond of "God never gives us more than we can handle at one time." Even though I consider myself a Christian, among other things, I don't believe that there is a God with a capital G lounging around up there micromanaging my or anyone else's life. I mean, I certainly hope not.
I realize that people find comfort in these sayings, but to me it's a cold kind of comfort. I am much much more comforted by the knowledge that I am free to play the cards I've been dealt in any way possible.
