Gah, I hate stories like this. I hate the endless perpetuation of the idea that cities are for young, single people, and middle-aged people live in the suburbs.
Just my little thing. My city is full of people who move here from the midwest in search of a place to spend their "party years" who give nothing to the community, who have no committment to the place, and yet expect the city to somehow fulfill their unique, special need to express themselves. I don't begrudge them their funky good times, I am not a native myself, it's the lack of any real care for the city on their part, the lack of people who want to contribute to making it a place to call home.
Anyway, I won't be moving to Martinez any time soon. I love the fog too much.
