I've been thinking a lot of about Crack Wars lately. I wish I had a better link than Amazon to give you - a big point of the book that the "editorial review" misses is not just that culture requires transcendent experiences, but that society then punishes its addicts for removing themselves from society.

I hate to admit it but I hate it when people remove themselves from me, even as I admit how much I want to remove myself, too.

Funny how that book made a big light bulb go off in my head so many years ago, but I know I will never re-read it. All that theory shit seems like the most prentious waste of time, ever, anymore.
